The degree program takes a practical approach to both the study and teaching of the English language. The curriculum reflects the current theory and its application in the field of English as a Second Language. The program&#8217;s objective is to offer an up-to-date theoretical and applied understanding of the acquisition of English as a second language and the teaching and learning of it. The curriculum offers courses for three years allowing students to follow the discipline as the first, second or third subject in the Study Streams.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Titles and Codes: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SESL 1101 \u2013 Introduction to the English Language<\/p>\n<p>FND 1122 \u2013 Introduction to Academic Writing<\/p>\n<p>SESL 1202 \u2013 Introduction to English as a Second Lanuguage<\/p>\n<p>ESL 2112 \u2013 The Structure of English Grammar<\/p>\n<p>ESL 2113 \u2013 English Word Formation Patterns<\/p>\n<p>ESL 2114\/ENH 2102 \u2013 English through Computer-based Environments<\/p>\n<p>ESL 2215 \u2013 English for Specific Purposes<\/p>\n<p>ESL 2216 \u2013 Language and the Human Brain<\/p>\n<p>ESL 2217 \u2013 The Sound Patterns of the English Language<\/p>\n<p>ESL 3141 \u2013 Introduction to the Principles of Second Language Teaching:<\/p>\n<p>Educational Psychology and Methodology<\/p>\n<p>ESL 3142 \u2013 Translation Methods for Professional Purposes<\/p>\n<p>ESL 3143 \u2013 Learning the Four Language Skills<\/p>\n<p>ESL 3244\/ENG 3269 \u2013 Second Language Acquisition<\/p>\n<p>ESL 3245 \u2013 Second Language Assessment<\/p>\n<p>ESL 3246\/ENH 3253 \u2013 Content-based Language Instruction<\/p>\n<p>ESL 3247 \u2013 Learning Disabilities and the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Language Learner<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Entry Requirements: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students need to have scored more than 60% at the New Admissions Test (NAT\/Placement Test) conducted by the DELT at the beginning of the first year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective of the Programme: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The program&#8217;s objective is to offer an up-to-date theoretical and applied understanding of the acquisition of English as a second language and the teaching and learning of it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Testing and Assessment: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All courses in the program comprise both continuous and final assessments in deciding students&#8217; final grades.
