It will discuss these regions\u2019 pre-colonial history as a general Course Description to the course and will discuss the subsequent history in detail.<\/p>\n<p>Learning Objectives:<br \/>\nThis course expects to provide an in-depth insight to students on the countries of the two regions mentioned and make them aware how non-European powers impacted the history of the region with their political and economic activities and the changes that took place in the region by being connected to international trade and economy with the advent of Europeans.<\/p>\n<p>Learning Outcomes:<br \/>\nAt the end of this course, students should be able to:<br \/>\n\u2022 Trace the political, social and economic interconnections of the two regions<br \/>\n\u2022 Assess the contribution of these countries to the historical developments in the Asian region<br \/>\n\u2022 Analyse how these regions influenced the world economy and politics<\/p>\n<p>Course Content:<br \/>\nA historical overview of the Far East and Southeast Asia<br \/>\n1. China and Japan<br \/>\n2. Indian and Islamic influence on pre-colonial Southeast Asia<br \/>\n3. European Expansion in the Far East and Southeast Asia<br \/>\n4. Rise of Japan<br \/>\n5. European powers in the Indonesian archipelago<br \/>\n6. Thailand<br \/>\n7. Indochina<\/p>\n<p>Assessment:<br \/>\nAttendance 10%<br \/>\nMidterm Test or Assignment 30%<br \/>\nFinal Exam 60%<\/p>\n<p>Recommended Readings:<br \/>\nEbery, P., Walthall, A.; palais, J.
