CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
International Research Symposium on ‘Sociology for Everyday Life’ –
Department of Sociology, University of Colombo – 2019
The Editorial Committee for the International Research Symposium on ‘Sociology for Everyday Life’, Department of Sociology, University of Colombo invites academics to submit abstracts to be considered for presentation at the Technical Sessions of the Research Symposium in September 2019. The abstracts should be based on original research work and, if accepted, should be presented.
Themes:
Social planning, technology and infrastructural development
The controversial role of religion today
Persisting inequalities
Social work and social policy
Experiencing leisure in contemporary life
Sports and contemporary society
Violence, conflict, and social justice
Love, sexuality and family
Deadline for submission of abstracts: 31st May 2019
Guidelines for the preparation of abstracts are attached. Please follow the instructions carefully. Please note that abstracts that are not prepared according to the guidelines provided, or are submitted after the deadline, will not be considered for review. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to make alterations to the text of the abstract in order to improve its quality.
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
Guidelines for the preparation of abstracts
- The abstract must report original research.
- An author may submit one abstract as single-author and one abstract as co-author OR no more than four abstracts as co-author.
- The title should be brief and explain the study reported. Capital letters should be used only for the first letter in the first word of the title and proper nouns.
- The author/s names and addresses
- Capital letters should be used only for the initials and the first letters of the surnames of authors.
- The address of the Institution in which the work was carried out should be included under the author’s name.
- If the collaborators are from different Institutions, the addresses of the Institutions should be included in the brief. In this case, the addresses of the co-authors should be indicated by a number in superscript after the authors’ names and before the respective addresses (as shown below).

- The text of the abstract should not exceed 500 words.
- Standard abbreviations of SI units should be used.
- The abstract should be coherent and free of language errors.
- A maximum of five keywords should be provided.
- Acknowledgements should be restricted to the names of funding agencies providing sponsorship.
- Use the font “Times New Roman” size 11 with 1.5 spacing on A4 paper.
