Introduction to the Courses:

Proficiency/Certificate Course in English

This course comprises four proficiency levels corresponding with UTEL (Academic) benchmarks as follows:

Level 1 – Band 4

Level 2 – Band 5

Level 3 – Band 6

Level 4 – Band 7

The course is compulsory for all 1^st year students who are placed in any of the four proficiency levels, and is offered as a foundation, credit earning course.

The minimum requirement mandatory to complete the B.A degree is a pass in Level 2.

A student with a pass in Level 3 completes the Proficiency Course in English and a pass in Level 4 ensures the completion of the Certificate Course in English.

The Placement Test:

New Entrants to the Faculty are placed in four proficiency levels based on their performance at an English Language Placement Test (The New Admissions Test). This examination is a written test.

 0 – 35% –   Level 1

 36- 49% – Level 2 –

 50 – 65%- Level 3 –

 66- 79% – Level 4 –

 80% < –   exempted
