Annual Field Research Training Programme

Annual Field Research Training Programme

The Department of Political Science and Public Policy successfully conducted its Annual Field Research Training Programme from 16 to 18 July 2026 in Udaththawa Grama Niladhari Division, Matale District.

The field research programme was conducted under the theme “Disaster Risk Governance and the Impacts of Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka.” Final-year undergraduate students applied both qualitative and quantitative research methods to examine disaster governance at the community level.

Students conducted focus group discussions, household surveys, and interviews with local stakeholders to understand disaster preparedness, community resilience, institutional responses, and post-disaster recovery mechanisms.

The programme provided valuable practical experience in research design, field data collection, community engagement, and teamwork while enhancing students’ understanding of disaster governance in Sri Lanka.
