Webinar on Impact of COVID-19 on Human Fertility Trends, Patterns & Choices – 13th July

To commemorate World Population Day, the Department of Demography, University of Colombo together with UNFPA in Sri Lanka is organizing a virtual event on the impact of COVID-19 on human fertility trends, patterns and choices. The event has also been organized as part of celebrating 100 years of  social sciences at humanities in higher education at the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo.

The pandemic has not only exacerbated gender inequities but has also affected fertility leading to demographic changes. Existing data indicate that the pandemic may be accelerating fertility decline in some high-income countries, as couples respond to the crisis by delaying pregnancy. At the same time, in some low- and middle-income countries, the pandemic has interrupted access to family planning services, even increasing unintended pregnancies among vulnerable groups.

Therefore, it is important Sri Lanka open eyes on COVID-19 impact on fertility and related factors in Sri Lanka and the region and come up with  possible policy implications of these challenges.

Please register to the webinar using below link on or before 12th July 2021 by 12.00 p.m. and circulate among the interested groups.
