World Population Day Celebration – 2024 | Community Outreach Programme
A community outreach programme was conducted by the Department of Demography, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo collaborating with the Population Association of Sri Lanka (PASL) as another event marking the importance of the World Population Day which falls on the 11th of July each year. The community outreach programme was held on 12th July 2024. The Department of Demography, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo along with the Population Association of Sri Lanka (PASL) extended their support to the “Lakhiru Sewana Housing Scheme in Maligawatte” to build up a library for the children of the housing scheme. To initiate the library a cupboard with books were donated. Along with the opening of the library, a guest lecture was conducted by Dr. Harischandra Yakandawala under the theme, “Leave no one behind – Count everyone”. The programme was conducted successfully with the help of Urban Settlement Development Authority (USDA) and the participation of the housing scheme’s community.
