Special Lecture on Democracy, Diversity and Pluralism: Understanding the Indian Experience

The Political Science Association of the Department of Political Science and Public Policy organized a special lecture titled “Democracy, Diversity and Pluralism: Understanding the Indian Experience” on 9 June 2026 in Lecture Hall 302.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Abhisek Karmakar, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Galsi Mahavidyalaya, West Bengal, India. The session was moderated by Mr. Mohamed Faslan, Department of Political Science and Public Policy, University of Colombo.

The lecture examined India’s experience in managing democracy and pluralism within a multicultural society. The discussion highlighted issues of diversity, democratic governance, secularism, and social cohesion while encouraging students to compare the Indian experience with the Sri Lankan context.

The programme provided undergraduate students with an opportunity to engage with an international academic and broaden their understanding of comparative politics and democratic governance.
