Master of Environment and Regional Development (MERD)

2026/2027, 3 rd Batch

The Department of Geography invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission to the Master of Environment and Regional Development (MERD) Degree Programme 2026/2027. Applications will be accepted until 07 July 2026.

This programme provides candidates with a comprehensive theoretical and practical foundation in the field of Environmental and Regional Development. It also offers an opportunity for eligible candidates to pursue a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Degree in Geography upon successful completion of the Master’s degree.

The primary objective of this programme is to broaden educational opportunities in Environmental and Regional Development for professionals already engaged in related sectors and for those seeking to enhance their knowledge and professional services in these fields.

The programme aims to:

  • Provide participants with comprehensive knowledge of both theory and practice in the field of Environmental and Regional Development. 
  • Enable participants to investigate various processes, techniques, and methods related to Environmental and Regional Development and critically evaluate their effectiveness. 
  • Provide an acceptable qualification and academic exposure for those intending to pursue MPhil or PhD studies in Geography and related disciplines.

Duration: One Year (Weekends Only)

Mode of Delivery: Onsite and Online

Medium of Instruction: English

Application Fee: LKR 2,500.00

Course Fee: LKR 131500. 00 (excluding Library Fee of LKR 5000/ Refundable and optional)

Target Group

Applications are invited from officers in the public and private sectors, members of civil society organizations, graduates, postgraduate students, and other individuals engaged in activities related to Environmental and Regional Development.
