Hydrology Field visit, Department of Geography

Field Excursion 2024 – Hydrology

The Department of Geography University of Colombo has completed a field excursion under the course unit GYG 3249 – Hydrology, on 16th March 2024 at Labugama-Kalatuwawa Area. This one-day program was specifically designed to focus on physical hydrology. The guest lectures, field activities and students’ presentations were conducted on the whole day by Dr. Sandamali Wijeratne, Ms. Prabodha Punsarani, Mr. Moditha Kodikara (Water supply and Drainage Board), Mr. Chathura (Kalatuwawa Water Treatment Purification Center , and Mr. Chaminda  (Labugama Water Purification Center).

Students gained practical experience in hydrogeological processes and characteristics, basin morphometry, water balance, water quality, water treatment, and much more. A total of 38 students participated in the programme and they gained practical knowledge regarding what they have learnt in the class room.  It was very useful for the students who wish to pursue their higher studies in Hydrology.
