Research Projects

• Fuelwood Assessment Survey in eleven administrative districts in Sri Lanka, Funded by UNDP. The main task was to estimate the potential fuelwood by GN division level using GIS and Remote Sensing techniques, 2016 (Worked as a team leader).

• Preparation of database for monitoring impacts of urban and peri-urban agriculture and forestry on climate change adaptation and mitigation in Kasbewa Urban Council Area, Funded by RUAF, The Netherlands, 2013 (Worked as a team leader).

• Preparation of GIS database for the minor irrigation systems for the Ministry of Agriculture, Industries, Minor Irrigation and Environment of Western Province, 2012 (Worked as a team leader).

• Feasibility study of Medawachchiya-Trincomalee Railway line. The client was the Ministry of Transport. Identification of alternative traces, Maximum flood Level and return periods and soil investigations are some of the GIS,GPS and RS related activities, 2012 (Worked as a team leader).

• Biomass Assessment of Sri Lanka for EnerFab Private Limited. The main task was to estimate Biomass potential of the country using High Resolution satellite data and Google completed in May 2011.

• Preparation of a GIS database for Invasive Alien Species in Sri Lanka, funded by the GEF/UNDP project, conducted by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. The database was developed on Google and this is an on-line interactive database prepared in 2009.

• Preparation of a Web-Based Tourist Guide Information System for North Central Province using GIS and Remote sensing, Sri Lanka according to the quest made by the Provincial Council of North Central Province completed in 2009.

• Preparation of a aspatial database for village reawaking programme organized by the Ministry of Rural Industries and self-employment promotion in 2009.

• Hakwatuna Project – targeting to prepare a zonal map and flood level of the Hakwatuna Oya for an Eco-tourism resort. Data collection was performed using Google, GPS and total station. Analysis of data were completed mainly by using ArcGIS in 2008.

• Preparation of an early warning system on Bird flu deceases in Sri Lanka for the department of Livestock, 2008.

• Preparation of a resource inventory for the Southern province of Sri Lanka, Funded by Southern Province Rural Economic Advancement Project (SPRDP), 2006.

• Preparation for an aspatial database for Samurdhi beneficiaries using 75,000 records from 23 administrative districts in Sri Lanka in 2002

• Team member of the Technical and Socio-Economic survey of Asian Development Bank Funded Rural Electrification Schemes in Sri Lanka, 1997

• Offered by the University of Colombo to study the Urban Flood occurrences and anthropogenic impacts in Colombo and suburbs in Sri Lanka, 2017

• offered by the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka to Analyze and Identification of forest types/eco systems in Lower region of Kala Oya basin and assessment of Inundation pattern by flooding during rainy season and dry season using RS and GIS, 2004 (Duration of the grant is 1 year).

• A two-weeks scholarship grated by the National Space Agency of Japan (NASDA) to attend training programme in Coastal Zone Management using Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems ,2002.

• Japanese Scholarship Programme Offered by the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand in 1994. Duration of the programme was 20 Months).

• Six weeks academic exchange programme provided by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), in 2001.

• A two-week training programme on Application of Geographical Information Systems in Regional Planning, Conducted by Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, DehraDun offered by Ministry of Finance and Ethnic Affairs in 1998.
