Inauguration Ceremony of the Annual Sinhala Studies Symposium 2019 – 4th Dec.
The Inauguration Ceremony of the Annual Sinhala Studies Symposium 2019 and 75 years Anniversary Celebrations of the Department of Sinhala, University of Colombo was held on 4th December 2019 at the Professor VK Samaranayake Auditorium, UCSC under the theme “Sinhala Studies: Past, Present & Future”. The Chief Guest of the Ceremony was Senior Professor Chandrika N Wijeyaratne, Vice-Chancellor, University of Colombo. The Welcome Address was delivered by Professor Sandagomi Coperahewa, Head/Department of Sinhala and the Keynote Address was delivered by Emeritus Professor KNO Dharmadasa. Mr. Achinthya Bandara, Lecturer, the Conference Chair, delivered the Vote of Thanks. A special volume was launched at this event to mark the history of teaching Sinhala at University of Ceylon and University of Colombo from 1944 – 2019. At this event, the senior academics of the Department were also felicitated. Academic Sessions of the Symposium were held on 4th – 5th December at the Department of Sinhala premises.
