Sinhala Week – Schedule
The celebration of 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Sinhala in 1944 at the University of Ceylon will takes place this October with a series of activities proposed as follows.
December 02, 2019 – Legacy of Sinhala Studies
December 03, 2019 – Film Screening and Discussion / Literary Discussion / Book Exhibition
December 04, 2019 – 75th Anniversary of the Department of Sinhala
December 04 – 05, 2019 – 9th Annual Sinhala Studies Symposium
December 06, 2019 – Undergraduate Symposium

Events
December 04, 2019 – Film Screening and Discussion (සිනමා සංකථන)
“Sansaraye Dadayakkaraya”, a film by Prasanna Jayakody
A screening of Sansaraye Dadayakkaraya movie based on Simon Nawagaththegama Novel, followed by a discussion.
December 04, 2019 – Discussion on Award Winning Novels (සාහිත්‍ය සංකථන)
Parallel to the discussion day there will be a book exhibition and fair inviting renown academic and non-academic book publishers in the country. There will be stalls in the green table area and faculty lobby area.

December 06, 2019 – Undergraduate Symposium
This will be a one-day conference organized parallel to the 9th Annual Sinhala Studies Symposium, 2019. Selected best research projects of 4th year Sinhala honors students will be presented at the conference. The tentative schedule for this conference is mentioned below. All students will deliver a 15mts oral presentation followed by a discussion and Q&A session.

Commemoration of 75th Anniversary of Sinhala Studies and 9th Annual Sinhala Studies Symposium
December 04 – 05, 2019
The 9th Annual Sinhala Studies Symposium organized by the Department of Sinhala, University of Colombo, is scheduled to be held on December 04- 05, 2019 at the Department of Sinhala.
This year the conference theme is “Sinhala Studies: Past, Present, and Future” and the event will be extended through a number of sub-themes enabling a participation of wide range of scholars from both academic and non-academic research contexts across number of subject disciplines.
This year, the conference organized by the Department of Sinhala is entwined with the celebration of 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Sinhala in 1944 at the University of Ceylon.
