The University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts, currently has two study abroad programs for undergraduates with the University of Justus-Liebig, Giessen, Germany and the La Trobe University in Australia. Under the MoU’s signed by with both Universities, students of the University of Colombo are able to study abroad for the duration of one semester.
The Department of English of the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, has an ongoing student exchange programme with the Department of English of the Justus-Liebig University, Giessen, Germany. This exchange relationship was established under a MoU signed by both Universities in 2008. The purpose of this agreement is to encourage staff and student mobility between the University of Colombo and the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany.
The ties between the Faculty of Arts of the University of Colombo and the Justus-Liebig University have grown stronger over the years and have resulted in a fruitful student exchange programme between the universities that flourishes today.
Currently, selected students of the University of Colombo travel to Germany, to study for a semester at the Justus-Liebig University, each year. Similarly, the University of Colombo also has had about 8 students from Germany who have come to study at the University of Colombo for a semester, over the past few years.
This student exchange programme has given the opportunity for students of both countries to learn more about new cultures and gain valuable experiences.

The University of Colombo signed a MoU with the La Trobe University, Australia in 2008 which has led to close ties between the two universities.
The study abroad program with the La Trobe University provides for 10 students of the University of Colombo to travel to the La Trobe University in Australia, annually, in order to study for one semester as exchange students. Likewise students of La Trobe University are also given the opportunity to study for a semester at the University of Colombo.
