Multidisciplinary Research Seminar – Series 11

The Department of Demography at the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, is pleased to announce the eleventh  Multidisciplinary Research Seminar Series, scheduled to take place on the 27th of February 2026, from 11.00 A.M. to 12.00 P.M. in Room 38 of the Department. This session will feature a distinguished guest speaker, Associate Professor Yan Tan from Adelaide University, Australia, who will deliver a presentation titled “Migration in a Changing Climate: Population Dynamics, Adaptation, and Sustainable Futures in the Asia-Pacific.” As a Program Director of the Hugo Centre for Population and Migration Studies, Associate Professor Tan is a leading voice in the interdisciplinary study of human geography and demography. Her research uniquely combines demographic, geographic, and econometric methods to investigate how communities across the Asia-Pacific region respond to environmental and socio-economic pressures through migration. During this seminar, she will share critical insights into the nexus of human mobility and environmental change, exploring how both voluntary movement and displacement shape sustainable development. The session will be moderated by the Head of the Department of Demography, and all staff, students, and researchers are warmly invited to attend and engage with this vital topic.
