 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

 Theme: Research Excellence through Interdisciplinary Approaches in Humanities and Social Sciences

 

The Organising Committee of the International Conference of the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo (IConArts) 2023 invites researchers from local and international universities and research institutions to submit abstracts to be considered for presentation at the technical sessions of the IConArts 2023 scheduled to be held on 28th November, 2023. The abstracts should be based on original research work and, if accepted, should be presented by one of the authors. All accepted abstracts will be published in the Proceedings Book of IConArts 2023. Presenters based in Sri Lanka are expected to present on-site. Overseas presenters will have the option of making online presentations.

To be considered for evaluation, each submission should include the following documents:

  1.  A short abstract not exceeding 300 words.
  2. An extended abstract (including the background, objectives, research design/materials and methods, results/ findings, conclusions) not exceeding 1000 words.
  3. The declaration form completed and signed by the Corresponding Author.

 

Guidelines for the preparation of abstracts are given below. Please note that abstracts that are not prepared according to the guidelines provided, or are submitted after the deadline, will not be considered for review. The Editorial Committee of IConArts 2023 reserves the right to make alterations to the text of the abstract in order to improve its quality..



 GUIDELINES FOR THE SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS 

 Abstract Submission Template

  1. Abstract:

 

    • The abstract must showcase original research.
    • The author/s should have adhered to ethical norms in conducting the research.
    • The abstract should include the purpose and background of the research, a brief description of research methods, findings, and conclusions.
    • The text of the abstract should not exceed 300 words.
    • A maximum of four keywords should be provided.
    • The abstract should be coherent and free of language errors.
    • The abstract should be formatted in ‘Times New Roman’ size 11 with 1.5 line spacing.
    • Standard abbreviations of SI units should be used.
    • Acknowledgements should be restricted to the names of funding agencies providing sponsorship.
    • An author may submit one abstract as single-author and one abstract as co-author OR no more than two abstracts as co-author.

 

2. Guidelines for preparation of extended abstract (to be submitted with each short abstract)

 

i) The text should not exceed 1000 words (excluding references).

ii) The extended abstract should cover the following aspects: Background, Objectives, Research Design/Materials and Methods, Results/ Findings, Conclusions and References.

iii) The extended abstract should be coherent and free of language errors.

iv) Tables and diagrams can be included and should be referred to in text as Table 1 or Fig. 1…etc.

v) References should be limited to only essential ones.

vii) References should be formatted in APA style (7th edition).

viii) Use font “Times New Roman” size 11 with 1.5 line spacing.

ix) Page layout should be A4 with 1 inch top, bottom, left and right margins.

 

  1. Title of the abstract:
    • The title of the abstract should be brief and should explain the study reported.
    • Capitalise only the first word and any proper nouns in the title and subtitles.

 

  1. Details of author/s:
    • Name/s of author/s must be written as initials and surname.
    • Capital letters should be used only for the initials and the first letters of the surnames of authors (as shown below).
    • If the authors are from different institutions, the addresses of the institutions should be included in brief. In this case, the addresses of the co-authors should be indicated by a number in superscript after the authors’ names and before the respective addresses (as shown below).
    • Use an Asterisk (*) to indicate the Corresponding Author.

 

Example (multiple authors): 

      1. P. Menikpurage1*, D. T. U. Abeytunga1, R. L. C. Wijesundara2

1 Department of Sociology, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

2 Department of Economics, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

 

Declaration Form       

    1. The declaration form must be completed by the Corresponding Author and submitted along with the short and extended abstracts.
    2. All correspondence will be addressed to the Corresponding Author. If the Corresponding Author is a postgraduate student, it is mandatory that the declaration form be signed by the supervising author/s.
    3. In the event that the presenting author indicated in the application is unable to present the paper, it is the responsibility of the Corresponding Author either to withdraw the paper in advance or arrange for one of the Co-Authors to present the paper.
