Curves & Colours – Art Therapy Workshop 04
Curves & Colours is a series of Art Therapy Workshops organized by the Career Guidance Unit of the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo. The fourth session was successfully conducted on 16th December 2025, from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m., with the participation of the Director of the Career Guidance Unit, Faculty of Arts, members of the Working Committee, and approximately 30 undergraduates from all academic years.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Shashini Ranabahu, Director of the Career Guidance Unit, Faculty of Arts. In her address, she noted that the workshop was conducted during a challenging period, as the country continues to recover from the recent cyclone. She emphasized that the programme aimed to support not only physical recovery but also emotional well-being, highlighting art therapy as a safe and effective medium for emotional expression, stress relief, and inner healing.
The workshop was conducted by Ms. Erandathie Damunupola, Visiting Lecturer in English Language at the Department of English Language Teaching, University of Colombo. An accomplished artist, writer, and qualified art therapist, she has authored and illustrated six books, including children’s novels and adult colouring books inspired by traditional Sri Lankan designs. Her work was showcased in her 2019 exhibition Urban Greens, and she later completed a Higher Diploma in Art Therapy.
The session focused on scribble-making activities aimed at promoting relaxation and mindfulness. Participants were encouraged to remain present, reduce stress, and cultivate inner calm. By the end of the workshop, participants had created meaningful and vibrant artworks reflecting their creativity, emotional expression, and personal experiences.
The photography coverage of the event was provided by the Digital Media Club, Faculty of Arts. Overall, the workshop was well received and highlighted the value of art-based approaches in supporting students’ emotional well-being and resilience.
