Demography Annual Research Symposium – DemARS 2024
(11th Annual & 5th International Research Symposium)
The International Research Symposium of the Department of Demography, University of Colombo, DemARS 2024, was held on December 13, 2024. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Senior Professor (Chair) H. D. Karunaratne, Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo, and Guest of Honour, Mr. Kunle Adeniyi, UNFPA Representative for Sri Lanka and Country Director for The Maldives. The inauguration ceremony was followed by a panel discussion. The panel discussion was held under the topic “Sexual and Reproductive Health Knowledge, Attitudes, and Needs among Export Processing Zones”. Professor (Chair) Sunethra Perera was the moderator, and Dr. Hrischandra Yakandawala, Public Health Expert; Dr. Nuzrath Nasoordeen, Medical Director, Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka; and Professor Manori Weeratunga, Department of Demography, University of Colombo, were the panelists. The scientific sessions were held after the Inauguration, and three parallel sessions were held in the morning from 11.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and in the afternoon from 2.00 to 3.30 p.m. at Hall no. 38, Department of Demography; Hall no. 126, Department of Geography; and the Faculty Board Room, Faculty of Arts.
