Diploma in Travel & Tourism Economics and Hotel Management (DTTEHM)

The DTTEHM, a multi-disciplinary diploma level programme, is specially designed to respond to the industry demand for multi-skilled travel and tourism professionals who are able to take responsibility for a wide range of complex industry processes by improving the theoretical concepts, issues and policies in an interactive and application-oriented approach. This diploma provides opportunities for the integration of knowledge and skills in the hands-on practice of different fields of the industry by providing practical and analytical competence in socio-economic, ecological, marketing, managerial, accounting and legal aspects of travel and tourism with hotel management, ticketing, information technology and other related fields to meet the modern challenges of the changing global trends in travel and tourism industry.
The course targets those who are already engaged in the travel and tourism fields at different professional levels and also those who aspire to develop a career in the travel and tourism sector, but may not initially have an opportunity to gain the university education from a well-recognized national university in Sri Lanka.

Diploma in Microfinance (DMF)
Department of Economics, University of Colombo commenced the first ever Diploma in Microfinance (DMF) programme in Sri Lanka on 11th October 2008. The Diploma progarmme is conducted by the Department of Economics, University of Colombo, in close collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Management and Finance, both University of Colombo, and involving government and non-government organizations in the field of micro finance.

Diploma in Economic Development (DED)
The Department of Economics offers a one year course on development theories, issues and policies, leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Development (DED), to graduates and professionals who have not specialized in economics but have since developed some knowledge of and interest in, issues of economic development. The DED was inaugurated by the University of Colombo in 1984, with the aim of meeting the following objectives:
* To impart knowledge of economic, political, social and other factors behind the underdevelopment; policies and measures adopted to tackle problems arising from under-development; policy constraints and limitations facing policy-makers in their endeavors to promote development.
* To enable students to attain a greater technical, analytical and diagnostic competence in the field of development economics.

Advance Certificate Programme in Tourism Entrepreneurship and Business Development (ACTEBD)

Major Objective
The major objective of this Advance Certificate Programme in Tourism Entrepreneurship and Business Development (ACTEBD) is to provide the essential conceptual and analytical knowledge with required skills through an Industry-Interactive and Application-Oriented Learning Approach to create professional excellence and analytical preparedness for innovative entrepreneurs for tourism development of the country, more specifically focusing to ensure People-Centered Sustainable Tourism Development.
Specific Objectives of the ACTEBD Programme
The specific objectives of this course are:
To provide the conceptual and analytical knowledge and skills of entrepreneurship in travel, tourism and hospitality management
To apply the gained knowledge and skills to start innovative and responsible tourism entrepreneurship through investment ventures in the industry.
To offer the entrepreneurial skills and knowledge to promote and formalize SME and People-Centered Tourism Investments in different parts of the country.
To develop necessary skills and knowledge to apply for responsible and sustainable tourism business management align with national objectives of the industry.
Target Groups
The main target groups of this advance certificate course are the different levels of professional employees of the industry and those who aspire to be professional entrepreneurs in travel, tourism and hospitality management in both domestic and international tourism industry in Sri Lanka.
Admission Requirements
The minimum educational qualifications of the prospective students to follow this certificate programme should possess any of the following qualifications:
