Career Awareness Workshops and Walk-in Interviews
The Career Guidance Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Economics, successfully organized Expo 2025 –Career Fair aimed at empowering undergraduates in the Faculty of Arts. This was held on the 19th and 20th of March 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the participation of around 100 students eager to explore career opportunities.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, as the chief guest. Other distinguished attendees included Dr. Shashini Ranabahu, Co-Director of the Career Guidance Unit, Senior Lecturer Ms. Ashani Fernando from the Department of Economics, esteemed representatives from MAS Holdings, and senior academics from the university. Dr. Shashini Ranabahu delivered an inspiring welcome speech, emphasizing that the career fair was more than just an event—it was a bridge connecting students with industry experts, enabling them to explore diverse career paths and take their first steps toward a successful future. Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu further underscored the importance of career fairs in equipping students with real-world exposure and professional networking opportunities. He highlighted that such initiatives foster confidence, sharpen industry-relevant skills, and provide a competitive edge in the job market.
The event featured career awareness workshop, with MAS Holdings offering insights into career opportunities within the corporate sector. In the afternoon, walk-in interviews were conducted, in which 5 of our students were shortlisted. On the second day, Sri Lanka Insurance conducted an awareness program focusing on the importance of financial literacy, risk management, and career growth within the insurance industry. Their session provided valuable knowledge about insurance as a career path and the significance of financial planning in personal and professional life. Olanka Travels facilitated walk-in interviews, offering students the opportunity to explore careers in the tourism and hospitality industry, which plays a vital role in Sri Lanka’s economy.
This career fair not only enhances employability but also equips students with the necessary knowledge to make informed career choices, develop essential soft skills, and expand their professional networks.
