The Faculty of Arts together with the Confucius Institute organized the sixth International Conference of the Faculty of Arts (IConArts 2020) on Inclusion, Equality and Diversity in Higher Education & the 1st International Research Symposium on Understanding Chinese Language and Culture (UCLC 2020) on 16th and 17th of December 2020. The event was held virtually on Zoom due to the COVID-19 situation that prevailed in the country.
Prof Sampath Amaratunge, Chairmen, UGC gave the keynote speech at the inauguration ceremony of the event. Two panel discussions were organized under the theme Inclusion, Equality, and Diversity in Higher Education. The first plenary moderated by Senior Professor Premakumara de Silva had Senior Professor Athula Ranasinghe, Prof Sasanka Perera, and Dr Vagisha Gunasekara as the panelists. The second plenary moderated by Senior Professor Neloufer de Mel had Prof Sandagomi Coperahewa, Prof Sujith Sivasundaram, and Dr Anasuya Subasinghe as the panelists. On the second day Prof Lu Wei from the Faculty of Arts, Honghe University, China delivered a keynote speech. Eighteen research paper presentations were presented under the theme on Understanding Chinese Language and Culture. The event was co-chaired by Dr Kaushalya Perera, Dr Tharindi Udalagama, and Dr Wimal Hewamannage.
