Job-Winning Interviews: Mastering the Art of Interview Performance

The Career Guidance Unit (CGU), Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, conducted a virtual workshop titled “Job-Winning Interviews: Mastering the Art of Interview Performance” on 21st February 2026 for the undergraduates of the Faculty of Arts.

The session was facilitated by Mr. Saman Wanasinghe, Senior Lecturer, who delivered an in- depth and practical presentation on effective interview skills and techniques. The workshop covered key areas such as understanding different types of interviews, preparing for common and challenging interview questions, structuring answers using effective techniques (such as competency-based responses), maintaining professional body language, managing nervousness, and creating a positive first impression. Students were also guided on how to research employers, communicate confidently, and demonstrate their strengths and achievements effectively during interviews.

Approximately 20 undergraduates participated in this engaging and informative session. The programme was highly interactive, allowing students to actively participate in discussions,
clarify their doubts, and gain practical insights into real interview scenarios. Through examples and practical tips, participants developed a clearer understanding of how to approach interviews strategically and improve their overall performance.

The workshop was organized under the leadership of Dr. Shashini Ranabahu, Director of the Career Guidance Unit, together with Mr. M.N.M. Faslan, Ms. Wathsala Anuradhi, and the members of the CGU Working Committee.
