Multidisciplinary Research Seminar Series 10

The Department of Demography, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, will host the Multidisciplinary Research Seminar Series 10 titled “Liberalism or Right-Wing Populism? Immigration Policies in Comparison.” This seminar will examine the evolving landscape of global immigration policy, contrasting liberal approaches with emerging populist perspectives, and exploring their implications for migration governance.

The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Sascha Krannich, Professor at Justus Liebig University Giessen and IU Cologne. His scholarly expertise spans migration, development, and global health. He has undertaken research at leading institutions including Oxford, Princeton, UCLA, and universities in Colombia and Ghana. He also serves as spokesperson for the Migration Policy Working Group (DVPW) and co-editor of the Springer VS series Studies on Migration & Integration Policy.

The session will be moderated by Prof. K.D. Manori K. Weerathunga.
The seminar will take place on 26 November 2025, from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m., at Room No. 302, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo.
