Aims & Scopes
Journal of Colombo Geographer is an open-access, double-blind, peer-reviewed journal published by the Department of Geography, University of Colombo. This journal dedicated to publish research papers produced based on geographic approaches from any sub discipline of Geography (human geography, physical geography, and geoinformatics) addressing environmental/human problems with a spatial dimension.
We invite research and review papers related to the application of geographic theories and methods. This may include articles on technologies, issues, and outcomes of environmental and/or social research and research/review articles on principles, policies, and consequences of resource management and allocation focusing on sustainability.

Colombo Geographer welcomes high quality, original submissions of research and review manuscripts. The journal publishes a wide variety of articles relevant to Geography in all its aspects. Authors can submit any research or review papers related to the application of geographic theories and methods to solve physical/human problems. This may include articles on technologies, issues, and outcomes of environmental and/or social research, as well as research/review articles on principles, policies, and consequences of resource management and allocation.

Guide for Authors
Colombo Geographer welcomes high quality, original submissions of research and review manuscripts. The journal publishes a wide variety of articles relevant to Geography in all its aspects. Authors can submit any research or review papers related to the application of geographic theories and methods to solve physical/human problems. This may include articles on technologies, issues, and outcomes of environmental and/or social research, as well as research/review articles on principles, policies, and consequences of resource management and allocation.
Articles submitted to the Colombo Geographer will be subjected to double blind peer review process. If their decision varies the article will be sent to a third reviewer and the editorial board’s decision is final.
Article Length:
Both research and review articles should be between 4,500-8,000 words. The word count is inclusive of captions, tables and references.
Manuscript File Type:
Articles should be submitted in MS-word. No other word processing applications are accepted.
Language:
All articles should only be in English
Manuscript Format:
Following formatting guidelines should be adopted;
- Manuscript should be typed on A4 size pages with 1 inch margins all sides
- Font: Times New Roman, with double line spacing
- For title: 14 points and Bold
- Main headings: 12 points, Bold
- Sub headings: 12 points, Bold, Italic
- Content of article: 12 points
- Do not capitalize titles
- Subdivision – numbered sections:
Article should be devided into clearly defined and numbered sections. Subsections should be numbered 1.1 (then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, …), 1.2, etc. (the abstract is not included in section numbering)
Manuscript Preparation:
The following structure should be strictly followed in preparation of manuscripts;
- Title Page with the title of article, authors’ names, full information on authors’ institutional affiliations including contact information. Also authors can provide the acknowledgement text in the first page, not in the main source file.
- Source file includes main content text with all tables and figures aligned in their location. The contents should follow the following format;
- Abstract – about 250 words exactly conveying the content of the article. The abstract should be self-contained and citation-free.
- Keywords: authors should include five keywords after the abstract.
- Introduction: provide an adequate background, rationale and objectives. It should be discussed with current citations/references. To maintain high scholarly standards, Colombo Geographer requires all manuscripts to contain a minimum of 10 most recent literature related to the topic discussed. Manuscripts should not contain detailed literature survey or results in this section.
- Materials and Methods: should clearly describe the methods of obtaining data, sampling techniques, and analytical methods used. Methods already published should be summarized and cited. New methods or modifications should be described.
- Results: should be clear and well described
- Discussion: Results should be discussed with published literature.
- Conclusions
- References: Authors are advised to use APA reference style for manuscript preparation.
- Figures and Tables
Figures should be of good quality and should be at least 300 dpi resolution. Each illustration should have a caption and it should be included within the text. Figures should be numbered sequentially using Arabic numbers.
Please submit tables as editable text and not as images. Tables can be placed next to the relevant text in the article.
- Equations
All equations should be numbered in order and be prepared using Microsoft Equation Editor.
- Acronyms and abbreviations
All acronyms/ abbreviations should be written in full at the first appearance.
Author fees
Colombo Geographer does not charge a submission or publication fee from Authors.
Further considerations
Manuscript should be ‘spell checked’ and ‘grammar checked’.
Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list.
