Art Therapy Workshop 5

Curves & Colours is a series of Art Therapy Workshops organized by the Career Guidance Unit, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo. The fifth workshop was successfully held on 23rd July 2026, from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m., with the participation of approximately 40 undergraduates representing all academic years of the Faculty of Arts.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Shashini Ranabahu, Director of the Career Guidance Unit, Faculty of Arts. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of promoting students’ emotional well-being and highlighted art therapy as a valuable approach for self-expression, stress relief, and personal healing.

The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Erandathie Damunupola, Visiting Lecturer in English Language at the Department of English Language Teaching, University of Colombo, and a qualified art therapy practitioner. She guided participants through a short mindfulness meditation followed by a creative art activity, encouraging them to express their vision of the future through artwork using materials and techniques of their choice.

By the end of the session, participants had produced meaningful artworks reflecting their creativity, emotions, and aspirations. They also shared positive feedback on their experience, demonstrating the workshop’s impact on relaxation, self-expression, and emotional well-being.

The workshop was well received by the participants, highlighting the value of art-based approaches in promoting students’ emotional well-being. Appreciation is extended to Ms. Erandathie Damunupola for conducting the session, Ms. Sachini Seneviratne, the members of the working committee, and the Unit’s Students’ Club Committee for their valuable contributions to the success of the programme.
